Development Inspector

Mike was raised in the Texas Hill Country, growing up on Lake Buchanan, and a proud Burnet Bulldog graduate of 1969. In 1972 he traded the beauty of the Texas Hill Country for the not so green desert of Southern California where he worked in many aspects of the building trades industry. Mike returned to the Hill Country in 1990 and currently lives with his wife Judy in the Channel Oaks Subdivision. He has three adult children Nina, Amanda and Matthew who currently live in Portland, Oregon. He has been the local Building Inspector since 2000, working initially with the local Property Owners' Associations until coming on board with the City. He is a member of the International Code Council and the local Building Industries Association of the Highland Lakes.

Reviews permit applications, permit fees, and related drawings for compliance with adopted regulations and standards.

Performs routine building inspections, documenting and filing the findings, and verifying that the structures meet the acceptable, approved standards and guidelines.

Responds to Code Enforcement complaints and enforces the Abandoned Vehicle Ordinance, Health, Sanitation, Trash & Litter Ordinance, Noise Ordinance, Outdoor Lighting Ordinance, Sexually Oriented Business Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, Substandard Building Ordinance, Takeoff & Landing Ordinance, Zoning Ordinance, and other Ordinances, as required.

Performs inspections in conjunction with the Fire Marshall.

Acts as Flood Plain Administrator in administering the Flood Plain Ordinance as directed by the Development Services Manager.

Proposes revisions to the city building ordinances and codes.

Performs plan reviews, offers corrections to construction and remodel plans, and completes various forms and paper work.

Issues citations and testifies at court hearings regarding violations of the building codes and other regulations.
