Council Member Buck Weatherby was raised in Lubbock, Texas, and attended Texas Tech University, where he developed a strong interest in government and politics. This passion led him to pursue a Business Administration degree with a Political Science minor.
After graduation, Council Member Weatherby moved to Dallas, Texas, where he built a 46-year career in the ready-mix concrete industry. During this time, he spent three years in Austin as President of the Texas Aggregate and Concrete Association—a trade association representing cement, aggregate, and concrete companies across Texas.
In Dallas, he met his future wife, Susie, and together they raised a son and daughter, who graduated from Baylor University. In 1987, seeking a quieter lifestyle, the family moved to Melissa, Texas, where Weatherby proudly served six terms as mayor. This role gave him invaluable insight into city operations and firsthand experience with administration, water management, road infrastructure, planning and zoning, and animal control.
One of Council Member Weatherby’s proudest accomplishments in Dallas was serving as the Tournament Director of the Redi-Mix Charity Classic. For 29 years, he directed this golf tournament to benefit The Clayton Dabney Foundation, which supports families of children with terminal cancer, helping with expenses and providing vital support during a difficult time.
Throughout his career, Weatherby dreamed of retiring to Texas Hill Country and living on a golf course. In August 2021, that dream came true when he and Susie moved to a beautiful home on the golf course in Horseshoe Bay, a place he describes as a "little slice of heaven."
With a lifelong interest in politics and community service, Council Member Weatherby saw Horseshoe Bay as the perfect place to give back. Since moving, he completed the Citizens Academy and served on the Board of Adjustments and the Planning and Zoning Committee. In November 2024, he began his term as a councilman for the City of Horseshoe Bay and looks forward to serving the community.
"Working together, we can make it work," he says, eager to contribute to the success and growth of Horseshoe Bay.
