The City of Horseshoe Bay Utility Department will be conducting city-wide visual inspections of active and inactive water service lines starting February 2024 and continuing through August 2024.
Your participation is not required, and this will not interrupt water service to any customer; however, we would like to inform you that you may see marked city vehicles and city employees near the water meter box on your property during this time. As with typical operations, city utility workers will wear standard-issue city uniforms, have an official badge to present upon request, and be in a marked city vehicle.
These inspections will assist in documenting service line material in response to the EPA's Lead Service Line Inventory requirement. Although the EPA does not require visual inspections, out of an abundance of caution and to utilize the opportunity to update and verify asset locations, the city is choosing to do so. Most water service sites will be visited but newer builds with Customer Service Inspection (CSI) forms on file and builds after the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1986, are exempt from visual inspections.
Prior to the new requirement from the EPA, the city monitored lead through regular testing, where we continue to remain in compliance with the state’s Lead and Copper Rules.
The use of lead in water service lines has been prohibited within Horseshoe Bay since incorporation of the City in 2005. Prior to incorporation, Lake LBJ MUD included a prohibition of lead in their customer service water use agreement. These measures were extensions of the National and State Laws banning lead use.
More information can be found at Revised Lead and Copper Rule | US EPA
