Youth Diversion and Early Intervention

Texas House Bill 3186, known as the “Texas Youth Diversion and Early Intervention Act,” was enacted January 1, 2025, to help at-risk youth avoid the criminal justice system by providing early access to diversion programs. This includes earlier intervention, allowing judges to refer at-risk youth to programs before they are convicted of certain crimes. Juvenile defendants between the ages of 10 and 16 who are charged with non-traffic related offenses may be eligible for the Youth Diversion Plan.
