[ARCHIVED] Boil Water Notice for Community Public Water Systems 10/25/2021

News Release – City Under a Boil Water Notice due to Mechanical Issues at Treatment Facilities and Low Water Pressure

Due to prolonged low pressure in the water system, the City of Horseshoe Bay is issuing a boil water notice for Horseshoe Bay West and Summit Rock. Residents in certain higher elevated areas of the City within Horseshoe Bay West, The Trails of Horseshoe Bay, Summit Rock, and The Hills experienced low or no water pressure and will need to boil the water until the city can confirm safe water quality through bacteriological testing. These biological samples will be taken on October 26th as the system returns to full pressure and will provide confirmation of water safety within 24 hours.

Currently, the City’s Central Water Treatment Plant is providing increased supply and pressure after mechanical repairs were completed midday on October 25th, 2021.  Even though many areas of the city maintained adequate pressure, the affected areas that experienced no, or very low, pressure (less than 20 psi) cannot be guaranteed to be safe until test results are confirmed. Until the City receives confirmation of safe samples, water customers within the affected areas must boil their water prior to consumption. Please see the following notice required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ):

Boil Water Notice for Community Public Water Systems
10/25/2021

Due to pressure below 20 psi., the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Horseshoe Bay, TX public water system (TX1500015) to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).

To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes. Bottled water is available at the two fire stations in Horseshoe Bay.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, hotels, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact the City Utilities Dispatch at 830-598-8741, and follow the prompt.

The City of Horseshoe Bay continues to monitor this ongoing and fluid situation closely. Updates will be posted on the City of Horseshoe Bay Website, www.horseshoe-bay-tx.gov, in City News Spotlight as they become available.  Please follow this link for additional information  Boil Water Notice - What should customers do?
