[ARCHIVED] Oak Wilt Disease Management Reminder

As the sun warms up and property owners look to begin cleaning up broken trees and limbs from our recent weather event, the City of Horseshoe Bay wants to remind you to continue to be mindful to prevent the spread of Oak Wilt disease.  This disease is responsible for destroying beautiful Live, Heritage, and other Oak tree species quickly and with widespread results, which could drastically change the look of our beautiful community if not taken seriously.  Please note that the maintenance of ALL oak trees, including pruning and trimming, is prohibited February 1st through June 30th (per City Ordinance). This timeframe is when fungal spore formation and beetle (insect vector of the disease) are highest!

HOWEVER, one EXCEPTION to the rule includes clearing branches due to a natural disaster to include any limbs posing a danger to life or property.  When maintaining oak trees under this exception, you should be mindful to always paint the cuts or wounds to the affected Oak tree immediately.  Therefore, if a limb fell from an oak tree recently or you need to remove one please paint the wound as soon possible and help keep Horseshoe Bay Beautiful and free from Oak Wilt.

You can find more information regarding Management of the Oak Wilt disease by clicking on the link Oak Wilt Management - City of Horseshoe Bay and using our website for more information.
